Tampa Bay Downs

As one of the most popular American horse racecourses, Tampa Bay Downs, also known as Florida Downs and Sunshine Park, hosted its first race in 1926. Today, the track is open on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from November to May. The main track is dirt, oval and 1.6 kilometers (one mile). Harvey Myers, an investor from Ohio, and Colonel Matt J. Winn, from Kentucky, headed the racecourse from 1926 to 1943, at which the United States Army took it over.
Stella F. Thayer, president of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame is the current owner and president of the track. Since the track opened, it has changed names several times. The track went from being known as Tampa Downs to Sunshine Park in 1946 to Florida Downs and Turf Club in 1965.

Golden Gate Fields

Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley, California hosted its first horse race in 1941. While the track is not as popular as Churchill Downs, it has gained from notoriety after the Bay Meadows closed in May 2008. Many people who visit the track also visit the Albany Beach, because it is in close proximity.
The United States Navy took over the party after World War II began. The Stronach Group, a North American horse racing, and gambling company, is currently the owner of the track.
